The Ney-Sayers

I was talking with a friend a little while ago, who after some ups and downs in her career life realized that photography has always been the path that kept coming back to her.  After all this time, she has decided to stop resisting it and JUST GO FOR IT!  However, our conversation was not so much about her taking this leap of faith, it was more about what she thought people were going to think or say about her getting back into the photography world.

This made me think about my transition into voice overs which is what I shared with her.  There are ney-sayers and haters in every line business.  Voice over is no different.  When I first started getting into doing voice overs there were a few people who scoffed at the idea.  There were some who asked me why I “quit” or “gave up” on being a photographer.  ”Was it just too hard for you?”

….Are you kidding me!?!

Needless to say, these people did NOT deter me from switching my career path into a direction that, I felt, gave me more opportunity to be myself.  I really enjoy acting.  I enjoy taking on new characters whether it is a warm and loving mother or a crazed blob trying to take over the universe. It just fits!

I also found that I have many supporters!  MAN!  Most people were STOKED and said they thought it was a great fit!  Many, who after telling them my plan to switch things up, referred me right away to people who then hired me to do voice over jobs!  I even started to receive emails and text messages about how I am inspiring them to take their own leaps in their career goals.  Talk about a great feeling!

Bottom line, its your life.  You can make the changes for it to be what you want, and to get what you want out of life, or… not make any changes.  Just don’t expect things to change.

Make the change and be proud.  It takes courage to put yourself out there.  I think you will be surprised how many people support you and will do everything they can to help you succeed.  All the rest… well, they just graduated to the status of background noise.

Catching Up With You

Hi!  It’s been a while.  Lets catch up!

There are times when I go to write a blog and I all of a sudden feel overwhelmed by all the cool stuff I want to talk about, the things I am doing, about to do, or just plain have been thinking about.

I should start by saying THANK YOU for the responses to the newsletter I sent out.  If you did not receive a newsletter please sign up on my website!  You all have been so kind to read and refer me.  I cant wait to start sharing the voice over jobs I am recording.  I just wrapped up a voice over for a handy man company and was recently cast as “Mom” in a music video!

I have also pumped up my workout schedule.  Ya know, gotta keep FIT in this fast world of freelance!  I am also doing quite a few more auditions for print work so toning up may not be such a bad idea.  I am taking a TRX class on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, then strictly cardio Tuesdays and Thursdays. I am also riding my bike to and from gigs to get a little extra cardio in!

Don’t think I just jumped into to that kind of schedule, though!  It was sloooow!  Now, waking up at 5:30am to be at TRX isn’t so bad.  It’s been really fun and I can see my energy levels going up.  I am already seeing my arms and legs start to shape up, too!  Its pretty cool to see this transformation happen.

More soon.
